Cougars complete weekend winless
HURON -- The Aberdeen Cougars' boys hockey team came away
with a tie and a loss in a weekend two-game series with Huron.
The squads played to a 1-1 overtime tie on Saturday and Huron
dealt the Cougars a 6-3 setback on Sunday. Aberdeen coach
Todd Wren was optimistic about what he saw over the two games.
"We played well in all three areas, defense, the neutral
zone and the offensive zone," he said. "There's
a lot of stuff we've been doing in practice that's starting
to show up now."
Wren said despite the Cougars having more goals in the Sunday
game, the team lacked the intensity it played with the night
before.
"We didn't carry the intensity over from Saturday night,"
Wren said.
Justin Wren had a pair of goals in Sunday game. Also scoring
for Aberdeen was Derek Mardian, who also assisted on two goals.
In Saturday's game, Will Goumas had the Aberdeen goal.
Next for the Cougars will be a trip to Minnesota to play
in a Junior Gold tournament in Wayzata, which runs Friday
through Sunday.
